Heat Pumps

Heat pump installation.

Heating your home without burning fuel sounds like a big leap, but air source heat pumps have quietly become one of the most practical upgrades available to Irish homeowners.

The basic idea, explained simply

A heat pump pulls existing warmth from the outside air — even on a cold, damp Irish day — and moves it into your home's heating system. No combustion, no flue, no fuel storage. Just heat, transferred rather than generated, using a fraction of the energy a traditional gas boiler needs to produce the same result.

That difference in how heat is produced is exactly why heat pumps run so much more efficiently than gas or oil systems over time. If you're not yet ready for a heat pump, a modern A-rated boiler upgrade is the next best step. See our full heat pump guide for Irish homeowners.

Why Switch to a Heat Pump?

Modern heat pumps outperform gas boilers on efficiency, running costs, and environmental impact.

300–400% Efficient

300–400% Efficient

Heat pumps produce 3–4 units of heat for every 1 unit of electricity consumed — far exceeding any gas boiler.

Zero Direct Emissions

Zero Direct Emissions

No combustion, no CO₂ from the unit itself. Dramatically reduces your home's carbon footprint.

Heating & Cooling

Heating & Cooling

Many systems provide summer cooling as well as winter heating — one system, year-round comfort.

What installation actually involves

Every heat pump installation starts with a proper home assessment, not a guess. We look at your insulation, your existing radiators or underfloor heating, and your household's hot water demand to confirm a heat pump will perform the way it should before any work begins.

01

Home Survey

We assess your home's insulation, BER rating, and radiator system to confirm heat pump suitability.

02

System Design

We specify the right heat pump model, cylinder size, and any radiator upgrades needed for your specific home.

03

Installation

Fully qualified registered engineers install and commission the system, typically in 2–3 days.

04

Handover & Support

We walk you through the controls and remain available for any questions after installation.

Engineer installing a heat pump unit outside an Irish home

Covering Dublin, Kildare & Wicklow

We install heat pumps across Dublin city and county, throughout Kildare including Naas, Celbridge, Leixlip and Maynooth, and across Wicklow including Bray, Greystones and Wicklow Town.

Brands We Install

  • Vaillant
  • Mitsubishi Electric
  • Daikin

Not every home needs the same approach

Well-insulated homes are ideal candidates as-is. Older or less insulated properties can often still make the switch — sometimes with targeted upgrades to radiators or insulation first. We'll always tell you honestly which category your home falls into.

Heat Pumps — Frequently Asked Questions

How much is the SEAI heat pump grant in Ireland?
The SEAI offers a grant of up to €6,500 for air-to-water heat pump installations in Ireland. To qualify, your home must reach a BER of B3 or better after the works, or you must carry out fabric upgrades (insulation) alongside the installation. Revolution Gas manages the SEAI grant application on your behalf.
Is my home suitable for a heat pump?
Heat pumps work best in homes with good insulation and underfloor heating or larger radiators sized for lower-temperature water. A survey is the only reliable way to confirm suitability — our engineers assess your BER, floor plan, and existing heating system and give you an honest recommendation, including whether a hybrid system may suit better.
How much does a heat pump installation cost in Ireland?
Installations with Revolution Gas start from approximately €5,000 + VAT after the SEAI grant is applied. Total cost before grant ranges from €10,000–€16,000 depending on home size, required radiator upgrades, and whether additional insulation works are needed. We provide a full fixed-price quote after the initial survey.
How long does a heat pump installation take?
A standard air-to-water heat pump installation takes 2–3 days. If the project includes radiator upgrades, cylinder replacement, or underfloor heating, allow 3–5 days. SEAI grant paperwork adds 4–6 weeks for processing before installation can begin — we handle the application for you.
Will a heat pump heat my home as well as a gas boiler?
Yes — a correctly sized and installed heat pump maintains the same comfortable temperatures as a gas boiler. Heat pumps run at a lower flow temperature for longer periods rather than firing intensively like a boiler, which suits well-insulated homes very well. Many homeowners report more consistent warmth and lower running costs after switching.
What running costs should I expect after switching to a heat pump?
A heat pump typically delivers 3–4 units of heat for every 1 unit of electricity consumed (COP of 3–4). At current Irish electricity and gas rates, annual heating costs for a well-insulated 3-bed semi-detached home are broadly similar to or lower than gas, and will improve further as electricity becomes greener and cheaper relative to gas.
